Less Waste.More Taste
DevSpark

We built ChillCheck, a smart-fridge web app that turns one photo into a live inventory. Snap your fridge, a receipt or a package label with your phone. Claude’s vision AI reads the food, quantities and printed expiry dates, and you confirm the results in one tap before anything is saved. From that inventory the app builds an “Eat Me First” list, Chef Byte (our recipe chatbot) suggests meals from what’s about to expire, and a shopping list fills itself from what you actually use. It’s built for Gen Z households, office kitchens and shops, and runs in any browser with no extra hardware. Problem Solved: Fridges are a black box: food expires unnoticed, people buy things they already have, and the door keeps opening just to check what’s inside. That wastes food, money and energy. We solved it in software first. A React web app on Supabase stores each fridge privately per account, with secure login and per-user AI limits, and an AI Edge Function does the photo recognition. Uncertain items, like leftovers in a reused ice cream tub, are flagged for confirmation instead of guessed. Your phone acts as the smart camera through a QR handoff to your computer, and shopping forecasts come from real usage, not guesses. Next we’re building the hardware: a door sensor, a temperature sensor and an in-fridge camera on an ESP32-S3.

We’re a team of two who kept opening the fridge, forgetting what was inside, and throwing away food we’d paid for. So we built ChillCheck: point your phone at the fridge or a receipt, and it remembers for you. Our robot chef Chef Byte then turns what needs eating first into a recipe. We had a lot of fun building it, and we’re already using it at home.
